Boston: "Almost every able bodies inhabitant of this place has voluntarily engaged to work two days in a week, for six weeks, on the fortifications carrying on here for the general defence.... Letters from London, received by last night's mail, mention that seventeen thousand three hundred German troops were going to Boston and Canada...." Also a report of a privateer taking two British brigs near the lighthouse. New York: Arrival of cargo of gunpower and jailing of Tories. Rhode Island: King George III replaced by an Act of the General Assembly with "The Governor and company of Rhode Island & Providence Plantations" in all legal papers. Philadelphia: American reverses before Montreal reported in a letter to Congress, and an appeal to all Philadelphians to turn in lead.
