with a nice even surface, having a waxed finish, the lid with a few old, darkened gouges or chips along edge, the underside of lid missing lock; the iron strap hinges appear to be period, but may be later- they are partially nailed (and screwed) into place they extend beyond the back side of the case, and the lid has patched areas above the strap hinges, the back left-facing patch slightly loose and with small split alongside it; both strap hinges with a later screw at top-most attachment; the back of case with some horizontal splitting, the dovetailed joints along back with evidence of being reinforced or filled; the back of case has a noticeable knot hole or natural inclusion, and the bottom interior of back of case with later wood brace to reinforce that edge and block the hole; the till to inside with no lid, and may never have had lid; front two dovetailed joints possibly tightened, with evidence of some fill; the back two corners of underside / bottom board with spliced wood segments; the feet are all consistent and appear old, and evidence that one has been reattached (front left-facing foot)- the doweled joint with evidence of glue and topped with some sort of gauze or fabric; with some minor occasional age cracks to side panels and bottom board, and bottom board with some minor old minimal insect damage, commensurate with age
