Note:
Jenette Elizabeth Aglionby was born to Fanny Walker (b. about 1824) and Charles Aglionby (1807-1891), who owned a large farm named, Mount Pleasant, near Charles Town, Jefferson County, Virginia. The family later acquired Gap Farm, now a National Historic Site until it was sold by Jenette in 1928.
Adeline Osburn was born in Loudon County, Virginia to Ballam and Mary Chew Osburn. She studied at the Packer Collegiate Institute, a female academy in Brooklyn, New York and later taught school. It is recorded that she began to paint portraits often in pastel, in the 1840s. Adeline married John L. Palmer, a printer, newspaper owner and political activist in 1869.
