Most with verso imprint advertising Trager & Ford's epilepsy-curing water from Minne Pazuta and Northwestern Photographic Company's views of "Everything of interest in the late Pine Ridge War" including the "Wounded Knee Battle." Most captioned and/or copyrighted in the negative. No photographer listed, but most likely captured by George Trager.

Young Man Afraid of His Horses was a leading Oglala chief who supported the policies of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. On 7 January 1891 at the request of General Miles he visited the stronghold of the Ghost Dancers and persuaded many of the Oglala Indians to return to the agency. This temporarily diffused the situation and started a wave of defections which contributed to their final surrender of the dancers on 15 January.
