Of a rich, dark, very heavy timber, dark brown with reddish undertones, a deep luster, the square tops with inset panel, over a waisted skirt raised on squared legs, full scroll-carved inner spandrels, and inset square feet.

Property from a Distinguished Pennsylvania Collection, acquired from Perry Trax, New Hope, Pennsylvania, circa 2001, as Hong Mu, circa 1860.

The owners of this collection were part-owners of an international company that carried them across the globe and frequently to China. It was during these journeys that their fascination with Chinese works of art first took hold, nurtured by encounters with objects that spoke to both artistry and heritage. Over the course of a single decade, between 1986 and 1996, they assembled the core of their collection—acquiring primarily from leading dealers in the United States, with select additions from Europe, Canada, and Hong Kong.
