Moderate deposits of surface dirt and dust; panel is slightly curved; three strips of supplemental wood have been added along the upper, right, and lower edges; there are associated pinpoint paint losses in some areas of the added strips and original panel from wear; one pinpoint paint loss each along the center right edge and in the lower right corner; a few instances of pinpoint white paint droplets in the lower half; moderate frame abrasions along the center right edge; small areas of inpainting scattered throughout the background, with longer lines of diagonal inpainting in each corner, which seems to indicate the portrait was at one time displayed in a diamond shaped frame; areas of inpainting are primarily only visible under strong light. Under UV light: the aforementioned areas of inpainting fluoresce, including one small spot in the man's upper forehead, in the medal on the right of this jacket, his left lapel, and in the gold portion of the staff he holds.
