Framed: 91 7/8 x 63 inches.
The relined canvas is generally good overall condition apart from some areas of uneven/residual varnish, which is fairly prominent in areas of this painting, and some areas of restoration in parts of the painting. We note that it is possible that there is restoration beneath some of the greenish varnish. Under ultraviolet light there is some residual varnish in figure's hair, a spot under his right nostril, to part of his bear, left eyebrow and spots in both eyes - these areas appears bright green under UV light. There is some restoration in the background at upper left near top of canvas. There is an area of restoration to Charles' cape at center right. A number of areas of the canvas also exhibit fine surface craquelure, including but not limited to the throne back at center right which has more prominent surface crackle. The inscription does not fluoresce under UV light and appears light green versus the darker surrounding area. There is some generally minor restoration to the building at far center left. Along part of top edge of painting there is minor paint loss just below frame. Additional images available upon request.
