Lot Note:
This work was executed in 1956 for Michel Leiris' Bagatelles Végétales, published the same year by Jean Aubier. Born from the close collaboration between the three men, the book is regarded as one of the finest illustrated volumes of the twentieth century, pairing Miró’s poetic imagery with Leiris’s imaginative texts that play with language to create a modern, evocative voice. The designs Miró produced for this project are considered among the most beautiful he ever created for a book; upon publication, the very limited edition printed on Auvergne paper was entirely subscribed: an early testament to its quality and impact.

The work is in overall good condition. The work consists of two book pages that are taped to the mat at the top two corners. The upper sheet has a burned hole in it, which shows through to the lower sheet. The paper is overall slightly toned and there is some mat staining. A few scattered surface stains are evident, for instance at top center and bottom center, as well as a few pinpoint spots of foxing. Additional images available upon request.
