A History of the Reformation of the Church of England was written as a rebuttal to a recently-resurfaced work by Nicholas Sanders which claimed that the Reformation was little more than a political power play executed by a corrupt king. The first edition was published in 1680, with a corrected edition issued the following year to coincide with the printing of the second volume.
