The Killer Angels presents a fictionalized account of the three-day Battle of Gettysburg as seen through the eyes of various participants. Particular focus is given to the actions of Lieutenant General James Longstreet, whose historical reputation tended to be tarnished by Lost Cause authors angered by his acceptance of the South's defeat and civil rights granted to freed slaves in the war's aftermath. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1975.
