An early letter written in the same year as Longfellow's first published work.
Longfellow sends a package to an unidentified recipient with a copy of Faust that the individual had lent him. Longfellow was interested in German literature and gave lectures on the topic, which included discussions of Goethe's Faust. Some of the translations from Faust were incorporated into Longfellow's poem Hyperion.
