A collection of research organized and housed in more than 300 manila envelopes, each labeled at upper left with its contents, identifying the enclosed publication or xeroxed article, as well as publication details such as author, date, volume, publication title, etc. Research focuses on a large variety of Civil war topics, ranging from general interest, to prisons and POWS, to battles, medicine, philately, naval history, and much more. Includes a mix of original publications and xeroxed articles, encompassing scholarly journals with a nationwide scope, local and state historical publications, military periodicals, philatelic journals, research papers, and other sources.

[With:] 19 1/2 x 15 1/2 in. charcoal portrait of a double-armed Civil War soldier, framed, 24 x 20 1/2 in. (crack in cover glass, toning to portrait, not examined outside frame). -- Prints after artistic renderings of Civil War soldiers, copyrighted by William L. Sheppard, 1903. The prints are matted and housed in 2 frames, largest approx. 22 1/2 x 26 1/2 in. (occasional soiling, some residue visible near margins, unexamined outside frames).
