both are stable and sturdy, and appear to have been professionally reinforced / secured, and with more recently upholstery (circa 1970s), the fabric with mild toning / staining, the cambric to undersides not removed for inspection; both rear seat frames inscribed in chalk, "Smith"; with later support blocks; chair 1: small patch to crestrail, old gouges to right-facing stile, old splits to front seat frame corners, the right-facing front seat frame corner with slight separation- having been secured with glue, surface loss to edge along back of seat frame, chip underneath back left-facing leg near glue block, back right-facing leg with spliced repair along backside, and old gouge to backside; chair 2: crestrail with repaired breaks at each ear and splat joint, with pins evident to either ear, and fill / overpainting evident, slight old loss along splat edge, old splits at front two seat frame corners, with abrasions / surface wear to lower legs and stretchers, the center stretcher is loose and needs to be professionally secured
