In overall fair to good condition, with minor dust accumulated on the surface of the work. The painting has a shiny aspect, which is due to the varnish. With a web of very thin, light and stabilized craquelure throughout the (cradled) panel, mostly unobtrusive to the eye in natural light, and consistent with the panel's age. Localized, pinpoint accretions visible along the bottom center. Examination under UV light reveals a thick layer of old greenish varnish throughout the work. Inpainting visible along all four outer edges of the work, with more significant, extending, restoration in the upper left and bottom right corners (vertical repair of about 2 in. long above the bicolor tulip at upper left for example). We also notice localized restoration in the background at bottom left (near the ledge, in the background: mostly old unpainted losses due to the craquelure). The composition itself presents well, with a few areas of inpainting at the foot of the vase (minimal) and a more significant restored vertical scratch across the grape leaf at upper center (about 1 1/2 in. long). We also notice that the blues, and some parts of the reds fluoresce (see the red rose at upper center for example): in our opinion, as it exactly follows the original pigments, these highlights are due to the paint used by the artist. We observe the same phenomenon along the horizontal stem at bottom center. See Specialist's pictures for more details.
