The inlay appears to be bone, mother of pearl, and the drawer pulls are bronze with porcelain plaques. The pulls and escutcheons appear to be later replacements. The design of the inlays at the sides of the case vary between the two examples. Scattered nicks, scuffs, and scrapes consistent with age, use, and moving. Age cracks throughout. Both commodes with small chips and losses to the porcelain plaques and both examples having one plaque restored. One commode with the proper left rear leg loose and needing stabilizing before use. This commode also having losses to the mother of pearl inlay on the sides of the case and losses to the veneer on the front and sides. The other example with some losses to the inlay and areas of fill to the veneer. The proper left rear leg is lacking a section of veneer and the brass foot. Some sticking to the drawers. There is no key. All drawers open and close smoothly. The tops are 18th or 19th century; but do not appear original. They likely originally had marble tops. The interiors possibly with some alteration and newer (19th century) rails supporting the drawers. The drawer linings also possibly newer but not recent. Spherical brass feet are old but possibly not original. Additional images are available upon request.
