SENDAK, Maurice (1928-2012). A group of 3 vintage plush dolls from "Where the Wild Things Are", ca 1980.
Various media; each 18-in. Includes characters: "Max," "Woman," and "Bull".
"These few hundred first dolls were all there were. They are very rare. Although the original designs managed to survive to be manufactured by others, Wild Things dolls of this original size [18-inches] were never made again" (Mel Birnkrant, maker of the dolls). See the original Brentano's December 2nd catalogue featuring these three dolls. Brentano's was the original distributor.
This lot is located in Chicago.
