A pioneer of the Brutalist movement, Paul Evans developed new techniques using acid-patinated and enameled, welded steel, or sculpted bronze resin and various metal patchwork designs in his works. His hands-on approach to the fabrication process adds a touch of individuality to each piece.

The table and chairs offered were created using a sculpted bronze technique. After unsuccessfully experimenting with metal flakes applied to plaster, a spraying metal technique was inspired when Dorsey Reading, while stuck in traffic, observed a team spray-coating metal to a boat hull. Sculpted bronze (or 'goop' as the shop referred to it internally) became the signature texture of the Evans collaboration with the Directional manufacturing line.

In overall good, stable and ready to place condition. There are no breaks, losses or repairs to the steel body. The tabletop sits relatively level, there are a few pads that rest between the metal base and the glass top that are missing but replaceable. The metal base with a few very minor scuffs and wear consistent with placement and movement. Please see additional images.

Ward brings over 20 years of deep and wide-ranging design experience to this role. Before joining Freeman’s, he worked in the Design department of a prominent New York-based auction house focused on in 20th-century furniture and design with a particular interest in European furniture from the second half of the 20th century. He also co-owned and operated Full Circle Modern, a successful vintage design store in Brooklyn specializing in furniture from the 1960s through the 1980s.

Mr. Ward also has a broad background in real estate, as an appraiser, broker, rehabber, and investor.
