Condition:

The overall condition is fair to good, in consideration of the item's age, with the following:

Structural Issues: Large split in base at interior, stretching from one side to the other. There are several broken twill tapes on the padded lid interior. The bottom edges of the trunk has some areas where the canvas has is thinning/worn away. Some small holes scattered through top layer of lid.

Losses: The leather buckled over strap has dried and broken, but is retained. Trim at bottom edges no longer remains. Some twill tapes at interior remain, some are missing; most are broken/torn.

Fading/Color Change: The canvas and lacquered leather on the exterior has darkened in various areas. General residue and discoloration marks scattered throughout exterior. The interior lining has darkened around the sides of the lid, top and base of the bottom of the trunk. Residue from previous stickers throughout exterior.

Soiling/Spots: The lining of the trunk has various areas of soiling throughout the lid and interior sidewalls of the trunk. Light odor due to age. Light dust/residue throughout both exterior and interior of trunk.

Corrosion/Tarnish: Brass hardware throughout exterior has heavily rusted; some verdigris at rivets. The lacquered leather trim has several roughed spots throughout the lid and upper part of the trunk; lacquered leather is also heavily discolored Several of the brass tacks on the interior padded lid have verdigris.

Everything is sold 'As Is’. The stated overall condition of the lot is based on the assumption that the wear is consistent with age and use. The absence of any reference to the condition of a lot does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. The absence of a posted condition report on the Freeman's website or in our catalogues should not be interpreted as commentary on an item's condition. Prospective buyers are responsible for inspecting a lot or sending their agent or conservator to inspect the lot on their behalf, and for ensuring that they have requested, received and understood any condition report provided by Freeman's.
