Three Rare WWII Russian Bayonets, 2 Ersatz 91/30 and a "Scythe" Bayonet

World War II

1) Ersatz 91/30 Bayonet with Tokorev Bayonet Blade. 11.25" blade length. 2.75" socket. Straight single edged SVT bayonet blade welded onto the socket of a 91/30 pattern bayonet. The ricasso is struck with an unknown arsenal stamp to one side and the serial number 11064 on the opposite. Blade bayonets of this pattern were produced in the besieged city of Leningrad.

2) Relic Ersatz 91/30 Bayonet with Tokorev Bayonet Blade. 11.25" blade. 2.75" socket. Straight single edged SVT bayonet blade welded onto a 91/30 bayonet socket. Item is extensively pitted, and has been aggressively cleaned, leaving no original markings legible.

3) Relic Wire Cutting "Scythe" Bayonet for the M91 Rifle Model 1916. 12" blade. 2.75" socket. Single edged blade with rotating retaining ring in the pattern of the early Model 91 socket bayonet. Lacks the secondary blade and spring-loaded wire-cutting apparatus.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.

1.) Good. Deep brown patina overall with some bites to the edge and the tip broken down. Item shows some nicks to the edges and abrasions to flanks.

2.) Relic. The lock is completely frozen in place, and the bayonet shows deep pitting overall with numerous losses along the edge of the blade.

3.) Relic. Item is missing the secondary blade and wire cutting apparatus. Item is deeply pitted, with the locking ring twisting in place.

Since 2016 has appeared as a featured appraiser in the field of Arms & Militaria on the popular PBS television series Antiques Roadshow. He is a member of the American Society of Arms Collectors and currently serves on the board of directors of that organization. He is also a member of and formerly served on the board of directors of the Society of American Bayonet Collectors. Tim is a life member of the Ohio Valley Military Society, the Tennessee Military Collectors Association, the Alabama Military Collectors Association, is a member of the Company of Military Historians and is a member of numerous other colleting groups and societies. He is the owner of College Hill Arsenal, a web based antique and collectible arms retail web site, specializing in the American Civil War and related military items. Tim has engaged in the business of buying, selling, researching, and appraising antique and collectible arms and associated military items for some three decades. Since 2016 he has also served as a senior Consulting Specialist in the field of Arms, Armor & Militaria for Cowan’s Auctions, a Freeman's Company.
