**G.R.I. Enfield No 1 MKIII* Rifle Dated 1944 with Bayonet

.303 British. 25.2" barrel length. SN: 96992H. Blued metal finish with polished bolt in walnut semi-pistol grip stock with full length upper handguard and brass buttplate. Bolt-action semi-detachable magazine fed repeating rifle charged with stripper clips. Right side of the action body struck {Crown}/G.R.I./1944/No 1 MKIII*, indicating it was made in India. Item shows a matching serial number on the bolt handle and {Crossed Flags} marks on the bolt and left action body. Post War Birmingham firing proofs. Right stock struck S{Arrow/I}A, the marking of post-independence India. Comes with a WSC made and 1907 dated pattern 1907 bayonet with scabbard. Comes with an American sling marked HOYT/1918/J.J.M. {C&R}

Good. Bore is Bright with crisp rifling throughout. Metal finish shows operating wear, some scratches and abrasions overall, with brown patina forming in losses. Buttplate is a deep brown patina. Some grease and oxidation to barrel near muzzle. Stock has handling dents, some scratches, and stains. Bayonet displays a mottled patina with deep brown to the handle, and some residues over the scabbard. Sling cracking and crazed with some abrasions and flaking overall.

Since 2016 has appeared as a featured appraiser in the field of Arms & Militaria on the popular PBS television series Antiques Roadshow. He is a member of the American Society of Arms Collectors and currently serves on the board of directors of that organization. He is also a member of and formerly served on the board of directors of the Society of American Bayonet Collectors. Tim is a life member of the Ohio Valley Military Society, the Tennessee Military Collectors Association, the Alabama Military Collectors Association, is a member of the Company of Military Historians and is a member of numerous other colleting groups and societies. He is the owner of College Hill Arsenal, a web based antique and collectible arms retail web site, specializing in the American Civil War and related military items. Tim has engaged in the business of buying, selling, researching, and appraising antique and collectible arms and associated military items for some three decades. Since 2016 he has also served as a senior Consulting Specialist in the field of Arms, Armor & Militaria for Cowan’s Auctions, a Freeman's Company.
