.32 Rimfire. 5" barrel length. SN: 4723. Blued and casehardened finish with iron frame mounting varnished walnut grips with replaced brass front blade and topstrap rear notch sights. Single action six-shot tip-up revolver with octagonal barrel. Top of the barrel struck with the single line L.W. POND WORCESTER MASS. PAT'D JULY 10 1860. Upper left barrel flat additionally marked MANUF'D FOR SMITH & WESSON PAT'D APRIL 5, 1855, indicating it to be one of the 4,486 examples Smith & Wesson won in their lawsuit against Pond. Item is missing the screwdriver from butt, with an additional port cut for mounting a lanyard loop that has been dismounted. Serial numbers match on barrel, cylinder, frame, and cylinder pin, with the final digit on the frame bored through for lanyard loop. {ANTIQUE}

Fine. Bore is Frosty with brown patina and some oxidation throughout. Metal finish shows few traces of blue on the cylinder and barrel with much of he gun displaying a pale brown patina on frame and deep brown to cylinder and barrel. Some pitting to the topstrap and forward frame near forcing cone. Grips have been sanded and refinished with some light notches on the butt. Action shows good timing.

Since 2016 has appeared as a featured appraiser in the field of Arms & Militaria on the popular PBS television series Antiques Roadshow. He is a member of the American Society of Arms Collectors and currently serves on the board of directors of that organization. He is also a member of and formerly served on the board of directors of the Society of American Bayonet Collectors. Tim is a life member of the Ohio Valley Military Society, the Tennessee Military Collectors Association, the Alabama Military Collectors Association, is a member of the Company of Military Historians and is a member of numerous other colleting groups and societies.
