English Flintlock Trade Fusil by Ketland & Co.

Carbine Bore (about .63 caliber). 32" wedge retained barrel with hooked breech. NSN. Bright finish, brass furniture, walnut stock. Single shot smooth bore muzzleloading flintlock fusil with socket bayonet lug on top of barrel 1" from muzzle, three ramrod pipes, open work side plate, raised carved apron around breech tang and a steel button head ramrod. 5.5" stepped flat lock with teat at rear marked KETLAND/& Co in two lines. Lock remains in original flint with an integral rounded fenced and bridled iron pan and flat faceted swan neck cock. Most of the internal lock parts, including the springs and tumbler are more modern replacements. Interior of lock with "M" makers marks and a {CROWN/36} inspection mark. Touchhole drilled and bushed with a modern bushing. No proof marks visible on top of or under the barrel. {ANTIQUE}

Fair to Good. Bore moderately oxidized and pitted. Metal with a dull pewter salt and pepper patina, scattered surface oxidation and discoloration and evenly scattered pitting, heaviest in the breech area. Some scattered light surface rust is present as well. Lock markings clear. Lock is mechanically functional but the cock is loose on the replaced tumbler. Most internal lock parts replaced. Touchhole with modern bushing. Stock with heavy restoration and numerous cracks that have been repaired. Barrel channel with significant wood filler present. Several repaired cracks in forend. Repairs and restoration around the lock mortise area as well, both internally and externally. Otherwise with scattered bumps, dings and mars.

He is also a member of and formerly served on the board of directors of the Society of American Bayonet Collectors. Tim is a life member of the Ohio Valley Military Society, the Tennessee Military Collectors Association, the Alabama Military Collectors Association, is a member of the Company of Military Historians and is a member of numerous other colleting groups and societies. He is the owner of College Hill Arsenal, a web based antique and collectible arms retail web site, specializing in the American Civil War and related military items. Tim has engaged in the business of buying, selling, researching, and appraising antique and collectible arms and associated military items for some three decades.
