Near Fine. Bore fine and bright with crisp rifling. Barrel retains some strong thinning blue which is streaky and mixing with a plum brown patina. Lock, hammer and breech lever with much of the case coloring remaining, showing some dulling and fading due to age. All markings remain clear and crisp. Mechanically functional action. Stock crisp and fine with the exception of the almost universally encountered hairline grain crack at the wrist which Merrill rifles and carbines are notorious for developing due to the weakness and lack of supporting wood in this area. This one is very tight and very difficult to see. Otherwise the wood shows scattered bumps, dings and mars from handling and use.
