Presentation copy, charmingly inscribed on front free endpaper by the author: "For Dr. George Waterman--Who asked about my preoccupation with mice Best regards from Andy White". 8vo. (viii), 131 pp. Illustrations by Garth Williams. Finely bound in full dark green crushed niger, stamped in gilt; all edges gilt; by The Chelsea Bindery; original pictorial endpapers; final line and signature of inscription somewhat faded ("White" almost completely so, but still legible), very faint circular ink stamp below inscription.

A rare presentation copy of E.B. White's classic first children's book. Signed or inscribed examples of this title are very uncommon and rarely come to market.
