Mackenzie traveled with physicians Henry Holland and Richard Bright and botanist W. J. Hooker. Chapters on the history of the island, the people, life and medicine are by Bright and Holland; Hooker, who had made a previous journey to Iceland, published his own work on both expeditions in 1811.
