Engraved map of the Americas, image 489 x 661 mm (560 x 755 mm sheet), matted and framed. Decorative cartouche. (Small chips or losses to corners renewed on verso, a few short tears to margin and fold not affecting image, a few tiny pinholes in blank areas.) The map shows California as an island, about which Wheat comments: "Here was certainly a 'throwback' map, though by a famous mapmaker who should have known better."
