Eclipse originally belonged to the late Duke of Cumberland, ending up eventually at the age of five, with Capt. Denes O'Kelly. Serving to be "the first horse on the turf" of his time, Eclipse was never beat. Upon his death in 1789, the London Chronicle found it an important enough death to award him an obituary.
