Original half red morocco, marbled boards, red morocco lettering-piece gilt to upper cover (upper cover detached, a few maps disbound, overall wear, endpaper torn.) Mitchell acquired the rights to Tanner's New Universal Atlas in 1845; this is the first edition of Tanner's atlas published by Mitchell's firm. It includes predominately maps of the United States (45 overall) and includes an early map of Texas.
