Contemporary maroon morocco gilt, spine gilt, edges gilt (some light wear, upper cover detached). FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with the four mounted plates, and "The Tandem" opposite p.348. Apperley's work, with illustrations by Alken, is "considered by many to be the premier coloured plate sporting book in the 19th century" (Tooley). Schwerdt I, p.38; Tooley 67.
