Large folio (538 x 414 mm). Finely engraved, elaborate decorative borders with "US" monogram to upper corners, bold calligraphic heading. With engraved signatures of President Lincoln, Vice President H. Hamlin, Speaker of the Senate Schuyler Colfax, and Secretary of the Senate, J.W. Forney, in addition to 164 Senators and Congressmen.A decorated and rare engraving based on the signed "souvenir" copies on parchment, a handful of which were signed by the President, the Senate and Members of Congress when the amendment was submitted for ratification in February 1865. This Reconstruction-era engraving, elaborately decorated by an important firm of engravers, contains no indication of the purpose for which it was intended. It was copyrighted by D.R. Clark in 1868.
