Tiffany; The Garden Museum Collection, Duncan, pg. 644 Frank Lloyd Wright Monograph: 1951-1959, Futagawa and Pfieffer, ppg. 14-15 discusses the commission Frank Lloyd Wright: Preserving an Architectural Heritage Note: This "Peacock" side chair, upholstered oil cloth and made for the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, Japan, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright a part of his redesign for the hotel. Built from 1915-1923, Wright's version was to replace a German Neo-Renaissance building built in 1890 that was already outmoded and too small to accommodate an increasing number of guests. Frank Lloyd Wright's philosophy, which he termed "organic architecture," was deeply influenced by the Japanese conception of culture as a whole into which every piece was integrated together. As a result of his belief that everyone deserved to live in a beautiful environment, he considered every single aspect of the interior and exterior. His proposals for hotels, homes, and museums included designs for furniture, lighting, and upholstery fabrics
there chair is intact and held up well. the joints are loose, with scuffing and nicks consistent with age and use. Scuffing, nicks and scratching visible throughout. Scattered areas of loss to veneer. Please see additional photos.
