Gem Characteristics: (graded in setting) SAPPHIRE It is the opinion of the gemologist that the sapphire in this ring has internal characteristics consistent with natural sapphire. A determination of whether or not this stone has been subjected to heat treatment cannot be made with confidence. On the one hand, this particular color (yellowish orange) is more often seen in heated stones. On the other hand, reflective rutile particles showing no obvious dissolution (which would be expected with a traditionally heat treatement) can be seen under magnification with oblique (side) lighting applied to the stone.
