Canvas has been lined. Under natural light, there are a few scattered thin marks/scratches to surface. The surface also appears stable, with older visible lines of craquelure thoughout having been varnished and stabilized. When examined under ultra violet light, there is a visible even coat of varnish across the surface. Significant aspects of the composition: hands, face, dog, decolletage, appear untouched by any sign of inpainting. The background portions appear quite dark and masked by layers of varnish. There are significant losses to the gilt gesso details of frame. Please see additional images.
