Provenance: Sotheby's New York, November 16, 2011, Lot 322 Guillaume and Jean-Michel Grohe founded their firm in Paris in 1829 and specialized in the Louis XVI taste, but enjoyed enormous success in reproducing many styles. They supplied furniture to many royal households including those of Louis-Philippe, Napoleon III, Empress Eugenie and Queen Victoria. Grohe Freres operated until 1884 when its inventory was sold at auction.
each in overall good stable usable condition; marble tops intact without cracks or repairs, minor chipping to back edges; bronze mounts appear to be intact and complete with uneven dirty patina; boulle inlays appear present, intact and tight; ebonized finish even throughout with some light to moderate surface wear consistent with age and use; each door with lock, one lacking escutcheon; no key.
