Property from the Toledo Museum of Art, sold for the benefit of the Art Acquisition Fund
Good, stable, attractive condition. Figural friezes and some decorative parts are most likely 17th century elements incorporated into 19th century cases. Both with age cracks, scuffs, marks, small chips and losses and worming consistent with age. One figure's head probably replaced, one cassone's lock probably replaced, one cassone's feet probably replaced. Light to moderate gilt loss in some areas. Museum provenance notes mention Burgio or Cafarelli families, Sicily, 17th century; Solomon de Rothschild; Duveen Brothers; W.R. Hearst (1923-before 1959), French & Co. No accompanying documentation.
