of lozenge form, centered around an oval cabochon cut sapphire measuring approximately 7.50 x 6.40 x 3.97 mm within a bezel with millegrain edgework surrounded by an intricate openwork foliate motif containing four shield cut emeralds and numerous old European cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.80 carat total, the inner border channel set with alternating rectangular calibre cut sapphires and emeralds, the outer fringe containing four old European cut diamonds at the compass points weighing approximately 0.48 carat total and 48 old European cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.33 carat total, double gallery, detachable brooch fitting, collapsible bail allows wear as pendant, together with a platinum chain.Hand inscribed: TIFFANY & Co. (scratch mark 1239).Accompanied by an original case signed TIFFANY & CO. NEW YORK PARIS LONDON. The case has been personalized with gold leaf lettering noting the original presentation of the pendant to Elizabeth McNairy on the occasion of her marriage to Francis Adair Monroe Jr. from Mr. and Mrs. Philip A. Rollins of New York in 1912, followed by the passing down of the pendant in 1941 upon the marriage of Elizabeth Monroe to Fitzhugh Willets Boggs.

Necklace: 18 inches Pin: 19mm x 19mm Pendant: 60mm (including bail) x 37mm The brooch/pendant shows no signs of previous repair. One calibre cut emerald is missing from the outer border with no corresponding signs of damage to the surrounding metalwork. One of the four bezel set diamonds in the outer border shows a slightly flattened outer edge to the bezel which appears, under magnification, to result from the setting process rather than damage and is not noticeable to the naked eye. The center sapphire, four shield shape emeralds and surrounding calibre cut sapphires and emeralds show scattered very minor wear consisting of superficial contacts and abrasion at the table edge visible at 10X magnification. The diamonds show no appreciable wear at 10X magnification. The collapsible bail is in fine working order. The removable brooch fittings are in good working order and the screw hardware shows no appreciable wear. Gemological Characteristics (graded in setting) It is the opinion of the director that the sapphires and emeralds in this brooch/pendant show internal characteristics consistent with those observed in natural sapphires and emeralds. Furthermore, no evidence of color enhancement through heat treatment was observed in the sapphires.
