Provenance: Baron Meyer de Rothschild, to his daughter Hannah, Countess of Roseberry, to her husband Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Roseberry, and by descent until sold Sotheby's, London, 11 February 1999, Magnificent Silver-gilt, Objects of Vertu and Miniatures from the Rothschild and Roseberry Collection, Sold Sotheby's, Mentmore, lot 129. Height of ivory 3 1/2 x width 2 3/8 inches. Portrait in overall good, stable, complete condition without cracks or losses. Silver filigree frame with dirty patina and tarnished throughout. Twist border to painting slightly loose, top with separation. Not examined out of frame.
