Depicting the pivotal scene of Madeline's rescue from the Seine River. From the second of the Madeline books, which was awarded the Caldecott Medal for illustration in 1954, the only one of Bemelmans's books to be awarded the medal.

In generally very good condition. work is hinged at top edge verso. Small one inch vertical scuff present over staircase at river. Minor craquelure present in sun's impasto area. Light toning present at edges of the board along with minor scuffs and soiling, please note this is unobtrusive to the image area. Board is slightly concave. Additional images available upon request.
