Note:
Yeates was born in Philadelphia. In 1767, he married Sarah Burd, a daughter of Colonel James Burd and Sarah Shippen. Yeates served as a Captain in the Revolutionary War. He spent the majority of his working career as a lawyer in Lancaster, and as a Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice from 1791 until his death in 1817.
board is split in the center; overall with crackled varnish to surface, with some general darkening; the upper edge with some roughness to surface which would have originally been hidden in former framing device; the backside of panel revealing some previous holes along periphery for mounting; UV light reveals overall mild green fluorescence, indicative of later applied varnish; the upper left with divot, with some retouching, and a few other spots of retouching to upper edge and background; frame appears to be later, with some minor loss to paint commensurate with age
