A Queen Anne inlaid and burl walnut veneered and inlaid tall case clock, works by John Sanderson, Wigton, England, early 18th century

With eight-day movement, the hood with stepped sarcophagus top, two giltwood finials, two fluted columns, and blind fret-carved frieze, the brass face with applied spandrels depicting turbaned masques, the dial engraved, “John Sanderson/ Meemento mori/ Wigton," the case with molded door, on molded base.

H: 98 in. W: 20 ½ in. D: 10 in.

the face in overall nice condition, with expected minor wear commensurate with age including minor spots of oxidation, but overall remains bright; hood: the stepped top is separate element and has been repaired, and has some loss to veneer along edge, the blocks for finials are replacements, and the finials are later replacements, the hood with some occasional losses and patches to veneer, the right-facing side glass pane is missing; the case: the door with some age cracks to center, some losses and patches to veneer along edge, and some surface finish loss around escutcheon from brass polish, as well as some areas of fill, the base with losses and patches to veneer, particularly along front corners, base edges, and side rear edges, with detached glue block from inside, the backboards with some age cracks and holes drilled for securing the clock to the wall, missing bottom board, and bottom of back board is open; includes pendulum, two weights, winding key, two case keys (one for hood and the other for case door); as with all mechanical objects, Freeman's | Hindman does not guarantee functionality for clocks
