The relined canvas in generally good overall condition apart from some areas of retouching and restoration, including, most prominently (but not limited to) an approximately ‘L-shaped’ restored area at center right between the figure at right and the fountain at far right (this restoration could be associated with an old tear). There is some retouching along parts of the bottom edge of the canvas, along the right edge of the canvas, and to an area at the base of the fountain. There is some retouching to parts of gentleman’s red vestment at far left and to areas between the gentleman and the lady at left, including an area between the gentleman’s extended left hand and the lady’s face. There is some generally minor retouch to part of sky at center left and to parts of foreground
