Lined canvas. A repair at lower right corner with corresponding patch on the reverse. The paint surface is quite flat, with dust in the crevices of the canvas weave. There is paint creasing and lifting along the lower edge. Some dust and grime at the corners. Under UV light: a few very fine retouches to his face, to the background at upper right and then along the right side, with extensive inpainting to the repair at lower right.
