Provenance:
Purchased from Clifford Wallach, Greenwich, CT.
On Clifford A. Wallach:
Clifford Wallach is a preeminent collector and connoisseur of Tramp Art/Americana furniture and decorative art objects who has published three well-known books on the genre.
Clifford Wallach started collecting tramp art on a whim 30 years ago. He became obsessive in his quest of discovery looking for tramp art throughout the United States and around the world. He compiled a collection of important and unique objects constructed with a complexity that speaks to the inspirations and artistic abilities of a diverse selection of uncommon artists from our creative past. His first book, Tramp Art, One Notch at a Time, was published in 1998 and subsequently he has written two others, Tramp Art Another Notch, Folk Art from the Heart 2008 and A Legacy in Tramp Art published in 2012. The books feature rare objects brought to life by the consummate and often obsessive abilities of artists who made art from societies discards in their homes far from the schools of high art.
