Caption in negative and ink stamps on verso. An intimate view of Coretta Scott King with tears in her eyes, taken during her husband's funeral services at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. Noted photographers Flip Schulke and Moneta J. Sleet are credited with capturing Mrs. King during these emotionally charged moments, but this particular image appears uncredited.

Ink stamp and typed Associated Press Photo label partially affixed on verso, with title, "As Nixon Visited Mrs. King," and accompanying details about the scene: "An exclusive picture of Richard Nixon in the Atlanta Home of Mrs. Martin Luther King Jr...Picture was taken by the Rev. Robert Fitch, a former colleague of Dr. King in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference who lived in the King home at one time."

Richard Nixon purportedly had a personal relationship with Martin Luther King, Jr., and Coretta Scott King, having met the couple at a 1957 independence celebration in Ghana when Nixon was vice president. After the death of Dr. King, Nixon traveled to Atlanta to meet privately with Coretta Scott King. Reports indicate that he also visited the home of Reverend Martin Luther King, Sr., to pay his respects.
