GRIMKE, Thomas S. (1786-1834), South Carolina attorney and social activist. Autograph letter signed ("Thos S. Grimke") Charleston [South Carolina], 3 December 1824. 2pp. Addressed to Timothy Dwight of New Haven, CT, requesting Dwight's assistance to his young cousin if needed. Grimke was a lawyer, a staunch Unionist in antebellum South Carolina, and a brother to Sarah and Angelina Grimke, prominent advocates of women's rights and the abolition of slavery.
