[CIVIL WAR] Sixth plate ruby ambrotype of a soldier with an Enfield rifle musket, possibly from IL.
Sixth plate ruby ambrotype seated portrait of a weary-looking soldier wearing a state jacket and forage cap, with his standard accoutrements including 1858 smooth side canteen, cap pouch, and oval belt plate, visible to the camera. He holds his Enfield rifle musket by the barrel to one side. (Chemical deterioration around edges, spotting and other imperfections to plate; unsealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case.
It has been suggested that the jacket featured here is of Illinois statehood, though that cannot be confirmed.
