Martha Warner Cresson (1808-1877) was the daughter of Hannah Humphreys (1776-1812) and James Cresson (1776-1843) of Philadelphia. Her grandfather was Philadelphia silversmith Richard Humphreys (1750-1832).

Sam has an interest in 20th century design, pottery, early advertising, historic Americana and antique firearms. He is a licensed auctioneer in three states and is a featured appraiser on The Antiques Roadshow.
