Sale 2043
Estimate$40,000 – $60,000
Provenance:
Christies, London, The Collector: Silver and 19th Century Furniture and Sculpture, May 23, 2019, Lot 485
Overall good, stable and attractive condition. The silver exhibits faint scuffs to its surface, consistent with age and occasional polishing, as well as some polish residue. Two moderate dents to the interior of the bowl as well as numerous dents to the underside of its rim. There is a faint crack separation to the cover of the water kettle through which light can be seen; it would benefit from minor repair. The kettle's spigot is not presently functioning (the knob cannot be turned). The lion finial to the cover of the sugar bowl is slightly loose, and the cover's inner fitting rim is slightly dented and out of round. The sugar bowl's foot rim has a dent in one side. The lion finials are engraved with IL monograms. The tray is contemporary to the service, and marked for Odiot, but its pierced border is not consistent with how the rest of the service is decorated. There is a minor dent to the center of the tray and the surface is somewhat scuffed from contact with the feet of the vessels.
