Deringer Copy .42 Caliber

.42 Caliber. 2.25" barrel length. SN: NSN. Blued finish to barrel with browned lockplate and hammer, German Silver fittings, and set in a walnut stock with checkered wrist and butt. Single-shot back action lock percussion pistol with rifled barrel featuring rear notch and brass bead sights. Top of the breechblock is engraved DERINGER, but the absence of any markings on the lockplate indicates it was not made by Henry Deringer, and that the signature is therefore spurious. No further markings visible. Item features spiral scroll engraving to the breechblock and lockplate with further scroll flowing up the outer face of the hammer and transitioning to fishmouth engraving over the hammer itself. Triggerguard displays further spiral scroll with wheat scroll flowing forward along the forend. German Silver escutcheon to the wrist is unsigned.

Very Good. Bore is Very Dark with rust and pitting throughout. External metal finish is primarily brown patina with some pitting at the muzzle and some further mars to the metalwork. German silver mounts exhibit some tarnish to interior surfaces. Grips show some rounding at the edges suggesting it may have been sanded but retain strong checkering. Action is functional, but the spring is weak, and the hammer can still fall in half cock if the trigger is pulled. Right edge of the hammer face has blown out.
