Lot of 2 Combat Knives Including: 3rd Model Fairbairn-Sykes and a 7.5" Fighting Knife

World War II

1.) Fairbairn-Sykes Early 3rd Model Knife with a 7" diamond cross section tapered dagger blade with triangular grind at the ricasso, found only late 2nd and early 3rd model knives. 11.375" in overall length, .9" wide at ricasso. Upper side of guard marked with the British Military inspection mark {Broad Arrow}B2 and is over-stamped ENGLAND for when it was later exported as surplus. Hilt with mold number 3. Knife includes a correct style leather scabbard.

2.) Unmarked fighting utility knife similar to the Cattaraugus 225Q with a rudimentary 7.5" clip point blade, 1.25" wide at the ricasso. Overall length 12" with a D-ring bale in the pommel cap. 4.5" grooved leather washer grip with flat oval 2.125" guard and similarly shaped 2" pommel cap. The knife is accompanied by a sewn two-piece leather scabbard with 8 flat reinforcing rivets and a hilt retaining strap. The face of the scabbard has a weak writing that appears to list all the places that the person who carried this knife was service, with the words "White Cliffs", "Scotland", "England", "France", "Belgium" and "Antwerp" remaining fairly legible and other names not as readily readable.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.

1.) Good. Retains some finish, showing signs of being sharpened and the with blade possibly shortened as much as .25". Scabbard with moderate wear, tip reattached with a rivet and elastic retention strap broken.

2.) Fair. Blade moderately oxidized and discolored with a dull gray patina and scattered light surface rust, along with some moderate roughness. Grip dry and faded. Scabbard dry and faded, well worn and somewhat stiff.
